July 28th 2001. The Bureau is a consolidation of the transportation and tourism section of the original Bureau of Construction (now tourism development section to be in charge of tourism business) and the civil works section of the Public Works Department、and the transportation management section are added (in charge of the transportation business handled by the transportation and tourism section of the original Bureau of Construction and maintenance of traffic control facilities originally handled by the traffic group of the Chiayi County Police Department、and road safety business re-assignment). Later、on July 1st 2003 in response to the restructuring of the Chiayi County Government、where the original Department of Transportation was assigned to be an outside authority、 the Chiayi County Transportation Bureau was established accordingly and the transportation construction section and transportation management section were preserved (the original tourism development section was consolidated into the new Tourism Bureau of Chiayi County) and the transportation planning section was added (in charge of transportation construction planning、roadway land acquisition and management that were originally handled by the transportation construction section、and the newly added responsibility of assisting the county government in the promotion of related transportation comprehensive planning)、 administration office、personnel office、accounting office、and civil service ethics office; a total of seven establishments.

Prioritized operation and development objectives for the bureau :
To plan and apply for construction of a perfect transportation network (particularly to plan construction of roadways that connect to the National Palace Museum in Chiayi、 transportation network for the Taibao Station of High-Speed Rail and the east-west expressway that connects the western and eastern parts of Taiwan (construction between Lucao of Dongshih、Chiayi,、 and Dongshi)、select a demonstrative sightseeing roadway and reshape the transportation visual landscape、 plan to promote the establishment of the transportation geographical information system、construct a roadway identification system、 improve transportation engineering construction quality、improve operation and management performance of parking lots outside public roads、enhance maintenance efficiency for traffic control facilities、counsel county bus corporations to transform their operations for sustainable development、among others、with the ultimate goal of providing road users with a top-quality transportation environment、build a convenient and characteristic transportation network、and drive the development of tourism and industries in our county so that the the magistrate’s administration ideal to gradually make Chiayi County the backyard of the Southern Taiwan Science Park to let the world see Chiayi、the charming Chiayi! We welcome valuable opinions and experience from all areas. We believe by putting heads together and absorbing new knowledge、it will help improve the transportation environment in our county.
